Not every tooth problem requires a root canal, but there are clear warning signs that the pulp inside your tooth may be infected or inflamed. If you are experiencing any of the following, contact our office promptly:
Severe toothache or throbbing pain that does not go away
Prolonged sensitivity to heat or cold even after the source is removed
Darkening or discoloration of the tooth
Swelling or tenderness in the surrounding gums
A persistent pimple or bump on the gum near the affected tooth
Pain when biting or applying pressure to the tooth
The sooner you seek treatment, the better the outcome. Delaying care can allow the infection to spread and may put the tooth at greater risk.

Many patients are anxious about root canals because of outdated myths. With modern techniques and proper anesthesia, most patients find the procedure more comfortable than they expected.
Here is what the process looks like at Citrus Heights Endodontics:
Dr. Sundar will review your symptoms, examine the affected tooth, and take digital X-rays. During your consultation, 3D/CBCT scans may also be taken when needed to better understand the tooth and plan treatment.
The area around the tooth is fully numbed so you feel comfortable and relaxed throughout the procedure.
Dr. Sundar carefully removes the infected or inflamed pulp from inside the tooth and thoroughly cleans and shapes the root canal system.
Once the canals are clean, they are filled and sealed with a biocompatible material to help prevent reinfection.
After your root canal, your referring dentist will typically place a crown or permanent restoration to protect the tooth and restore full function.
Most patients are surprised by how comfortable root canal therapy is with modern techniques. Dr. Sundar uses precise local anesthesia to ensure you feel little to nothing during the procedure. Any mild soreness afterward typically resolves within a few days.
Most root canals at Citrus Heights Endodontics are completed in a single visit. Complex cases may require a follow up appointment. Dr. Sundar will let you know what to expect at your consultation.
After your root canal is complete, you will return to your general dentist to have a crown or permanent restoration placed over the treated tooth. This final step protects the tooth and restores full function.
Many patients come to us through a referral from their general dentist, but you are also welcome to contact our office directly if you are experiencing tooth pain or think you may need endodontic care.
If you are experiencing tooth pain, sensitivity, or swelling, do not put it off. Early treatment leads to better outcomes. Contact Citrus Heights Endodontics today to request your appointment with Dr. Jyotsna Sundar.
